WITH MY LAST DAY BEING JULY 10TH, I DO SO WITH IMMENSE GRATITUDE AND PRIDE. TOGETHER WE HAVE STRENGTHENED OUR ORGANIZATION, ADVANCED KEY INITIATIVES, ENHANCED PUBLIC SERVICE AND POSITION THIS GREAT CITY FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS. SO FIRST, I WANTED TO, UPON TAKING THIS JOB AND END OF DECEMBER, WHICH TODAY KIND OF MARKS MY SEVENTH MONTH ANNIVERSARY HERE IN THIS POSITION, AS WELL AS MY FOUR YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH THE CITY. AND SO UPON TAKING THIS JOB, PRIMARILY, I WANTED TO FOCUS ON ENHANCING NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY AND COMMUNITY APPEARANCE, IMPROVE ANIMAL SERVICES, AND STRENGTHEN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT, AND INCREASE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY, AND ADVANCE PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES. HOW DID I DO THAT? I ACCOMPLISHED THREE TASKS. THIS IS JUST A SMALL LIST OF THE THINGS I WAS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH, BUT WE PRIMARILY EXPANDED THE DEPARTMENT'S FOOTPRINT. AND BY EXPANDING THE DEPARTMENT'S FOOTPRINT, I MEAN WE THE DEPARTMENT EXPANDED TO THE SIENNA ANNEX, THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, WHERE I HAVE TWO CODE OFFICERS, AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE HEALTH SERVICES DIVISION. AND THE REASON WE EXPANDED TO THAT AREA IS BECAUSE OF THE GROWTH AND EXPANSION THAT'S HAPPENING IN FORT BEND TOWN CENTER AREA, AS WELL AS THE AMOUNT OF RESTAURANTS. AND SO IT ALLOWS STAFF TO BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE IN THOSE AREAS. THE SECOND THING WE DID UPON THE SECOND THING I DID UPON COMING INTO THE DEPARTMENT WAS ESTABLISHING OR DISCONNECTING HEALTH FROM CODE. HEALTH AND CODE WAS ORIGINALLY COMBINED TOGETHER AS ONE DIVISION, BUT AFTER TALKING WITH CITY LEADERSHIP, WE DECIDED TO BREAK THOSE APART INTO SEPARATE DIVISIONS. AND LASTLY, WE FULLY TRANSITIONED THE CITY TO GFL. UPON MY ARRIVAL, EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, THE ANNEX TWO WAS A PART STILL A PART OF USING BEST TRASH AS A SOLID WASTE PROVIDER. AND SO JANUARY 1ST, MAYBE WITHIN THE FIRST OR SECOND WEEK, WE WERE ABLE TO FULLY TRANSITION THE ENTIRE CITY ONTO GFL. AND NOW THEY HAVE WEEKLY RECYCLING AND SOLID WASTE COLLECTIONS. I TOUCHED ON EXPANDING TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY ANNEX, ALONG WITH PD ALREADY BEING THERE. WE ALSO TRANSITIONED ENFORCEMENT TO ZONE COVERAGE, SO THE CITY IS NOW SPLIT.
